Rabbinical Approvals:
Before bringing any of our products to market, we consulted with leading poskim to ensure that they conform to all the halachic requirements. For example, we consulted with our mara d’asra, Rabbi Shlomo Miller in Toronto, when we first came out with our KosherLamp™ brand shabbos lamps, and for each subsequent version.
All authorities would permit twisting the shade on Shabbos. It is similar to opening or closing a closet door in which there is a light burning on Shabbos. This is even the case where the shade forms part of the lamp. R. Neuwirth writes explicitly in Shemiras Shabbos: A shade which is made to direct the light or to cover it up altogether may be adjusted on Shabbath, even if it is made in such a way that it forms part of the lamp.

The KosherLamp™ 360 and the Travel KosherLamp™ brand shabbos lamp comes with a Universal Power Cord Adapter but may require a special Plug Adapter so that the plug will fit in different outlets around the world. If you have purchased a KosherLamp™ 360 or Travel KosherLamp™ brand shabbos lamp in North America, it comes with a Type C Plug Adapter for use in Israel and Europe (but not the UK). This plug can sometimes be used in South Africa too.
We do not stock the following Plug Adapters but have put links to these items on Amazon.com* for your convenience.
PLEASE NOTE: these Plug Adapters do not Power the appliance, and are NOT electrical transformers.
Please ensure you use a power cord that allows for a voltage range of 100V – 240V.

1. NORTH AMERICA to UNITED KINGDOM PLUG ADAPTER

- has holes for 2 North American plugs at the same time
- Type A or B to Type G plug
- compact, sturdy and simple, no moving parts
The electrical outlets in the UK, Ireland and some other countries use a Type G plug.
These plug adapters will allow a North American Type A or Type B plug fit into a UK Type G outlet.
2. NORTH AMERICA to SOUTH AFRICA PLUG ADAPTER
- 3 plug adapters per package
- has holes for 2 North American plugs at the same time (especially useful because there might not be many outlets in the same room)
- Type A or B to Type M plug
- compact, sturdy and simple, no moving parts
Not all electrical outlets in South Africa are Type M. It is possible that some might also be Type C, Type D or Type N. Ask your hotel or host what kind of outlets they have in their rooms to be sure.
